John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Harper Government support to help We Wai Kai Nation (Cape Mudge Band Council) strengthen economic opportunities in Campbell River.
"Our Government, through the Community Adjustment Fund, is providing a timely, targeted stimulus to western Canadian communities, helping reduce the impacts of the global recession," said John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North. "This project will help create jobs and maintain employment in Campbell River, helping our community overcome the challenges currently facing our region."
These funds will go to construct and expand infrastructure on a 36.6 acre industrial/commercial sub-division, which will allow for continued development of the property. The benefits of the improved infrastructure expansion will be available to a broader group of potential tenants while continuing to promote and service Campbell River.
Federal funding of $3,000,000 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
The majority of these funds will be expended on wages, supply contracts, and services which is anticipated to be spent locally, and will improve the economics of the entire Campbell River area.
The Community Adjustment Fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
